DAY 1 ON THE ICW

APRIL 20, 2012
SUNSET SHELL ISLAND, TEXAS
SHELL ISLAND MILE MARKER 271
Leaving the Galveston Yacht Basin Marina at 6:45 AM it was a beautiful day for a new beginning.  It’s Perfect crossed the Houston Ship Channel & entered the ICW heading east starting at approx. mile marker 353.  The day was uneventful traveling along with huge tugs pushing multiple barges.  Everything was working perfectly. The day was warm & calm.
There is not much to see on that part of the Ditch.  It reminded Rod & I of driving across West Texas, not much scenery, not much traffic.  We were motoring at 6 ½ to 7 knots
toward mile marker 271 & Shell Island on the NE side of Sabine Lake.

We arrived at 6:30 PM to a beautiful sunset.  Shell Island is small & tucked just off the ICW waterway.  There is little traffic & the night was peaceful & quiet.

ICW SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS
After dropping the anchor & securing the boat we sat on deck with a glass of wine.  In the quiet of the evening we talked of what brought us to this point in our lives.  People say how lucky we are to be doing what we dreamed of  & we know we are very fortunate.  This day took years of planning, work & determination.  Everything we did is worth this lovely evening, watching the sun go down & thousands of star appear in the black sky.  Life is good.
