SMALL BOATS - WHAT SAILING IS ALL ABOUT

MAY 24, 2012

GREAT SAVE!

We are now anchored, just off shore of The Boat House Restaurant here in Naples, Florida still waiting on weather.  We have been very entertained by watching a kids sailing class in action.  I had forgotten how unforgiving a small sail boat can be. Some of those kids were great with few turning them over.  Future cruisers in training, they were having a blast!

CUTE..... BUT NOT COMFORTABLE
Last night we were anchored in 6.5 ft. of water.  Everything looked great, but looks can be deceiving.    We neglected to check the tide table until of course, we were stuck.  There is a normal 2 ½ to 3 ft. tide.  By low tide, about 9:30, we were not only stuck but were leaning over as much as 22 degrees. It was almost funny, but not quite.  Things were falling off every flat surface & Rod & I had to wedge ourselves on the sofa behind the table to watch a movie.  By midnight when we went to bed the boat was almost back to normal, the tide was coming in.  A maritime disaster was avoided & another important lesson learned.

EVENING IN NAPLES
