LANIER ISLAND - THE SUN FINALLY SHINES

JANUARY 5, 2013

We are sitting at anchor at Lanier Island, about 50 miles south of our last anchorage.  We arrived yesterday after 9 hours of motor sailing south.  We made good time with a light wind from the north.  The skies were cloudy with a light drizzle and the temp stayed in the low 50's all day.

After looking at the tide charts we decided to stay here an extra night.  Tomorrow we will leave with the tide at day break & head off shore for a short day down to St Mary's inlet.  This is calving season for the Right Whale.  There have been several sightings of mother whales with new babies off the Georgia coast.  Who knows what we might find out there.

We are spending the day doing necessary chores.  We have a leak in one of the faucets to take care of along with checking fluids, strainers & filling the water & fuel tanks.  The sun is finally shining although it is still very cool.  Our plan is to arrive in St. Augustine on Monday afternoon & pick up a mooring ball at the City Marina where we stayed the last time we were in town.  There should be mail waiting & more parts for the water maker.  Rod plans to start building the water maker while we are there.  Depending on  the arrival of parts we will be there 4 or 5 days before heading on to Ft. Lauderdale.

Today we  will spend our Happy Hour in the cockpit of Its Perfect enjoying  what is left of the first beautiful sunny day we have seen in a long time.
