2013 - A BRAND NEW YEAR

JANUARY 1, 2013

CLEARING ICE OFF THE ANCHOR LINE
The year 2013 will be a great year of adventure for us.  New sunsets, wildlife, anchorages, people, boats, countries, towns & more will add amazing things to our life on the water.  This will be the first time we have taken It's Perfect into new countries & we are very anxious to get started.
Today we got a late start from our anchorage just out of Beaufort, SC.  At 9:51 AM we headed down the shipping channel towards Port Royal Sound. We have seen a lot of adult dolphin accompanied by very small juvenile dolphin.  It is amazing to watch them as they surface & dive together.  We have read that the Georgia coast is a favorite calving area for dolphin on the Atlantic & it seems we see more every day moving south.   On the southern side of Port Royal Sound we will again enter the ICW, heading for Savannah.  Traveling every day is a challenge for the attitude.  The thing that makes it worthwhile is everything you see along the way & the experience you have at the end of the day.

We arrived at our anchorage in the Wright River just before the shipping channel into Savannah, Georgia at 4:45 PM.  It was just about slack tide, the water was calm at 54 degrees. The rain clouds are gathering as we settle in for the night.  Grilled chicken, baked potatoes & salad for dinner.

We woke to rain, fog & cool weather. Warmer than we have seen in a while.  Rod has decided we will stay here a day & watch the weather system that is headed our way.  Getting back into the cruising mode is becoming more familiar as the days go by.  Of course there is plenty to do when you live aboard.  As soon as the rain subsided Rod decided to scrub the bottom of the boat from the dingy, next a solenoid valve is leaking on one of the toilets.  Then daily maintenance chores when you are on the move, checking the engine & strainers.  While he is busy I will do some cooking to make meals a little easier as we move south.  I guess I will start with boiling some eggs, making potato salad & finally desert, apple cobbler.  After a full day at anchor we will have dinner & a movie before turning in.  Hopefully we will weigh anchor & move further south in the morning.
