ON THE DOCK FOR REPAIRS

February 24, 2013

After an exhausting day on Saturday, life could have been much worse.   The towboat captain was on the same dock we were towed to.  After some discussion he contacted someone he knew to help with the line around the anchor.  Things were moving forward.

Before help arrived, with Rod in the dinghy & me on the deck, managed to unwind the rope off the prop shaft.  When help arrived he was soon in the water checking the prop & bottom for damage.  After cleaning the prop & replacing the zinc the world was looking a little better.  Before he left he took a look at the dinghy motor & with a small adjustment it started like a champ.  All of this by noon!

JUDY & I AT THE POOP DECK
Now the Drive Saver was the biggest & the last to be repaired.  Rod began fabricating a replacement part to get us on the move in case we were unable to obtain a part.  By dinner time we all piled in our now working dinghy & headed for the shore & dinner at the POOP DECK.  Conveniently we found a Perkins engine dealer right across the street.  It would be the first stop on Rod’s search for parts in the morning.

ROSE ISLAND
Judy is an exceptionally easy guest & being stuck at the dock did not seem to be a problem.  She & I walked into downtown early on Monday while Rod went in search of parts.  There really is someone looking out for sailors.  By noon we were all back aboard & Rod had the exact DRIVE SAVER we needed in hand.
It turned out to be the only one on the island of Nassau.  The repair was quick, we were soon getting ready to leave the dock & Nassau Harbor.
The next morning we headed for Rose Island.  We had heard great reviews about the anchorage.  The weather & water were beautiful & we dropped the anchor by early afternoon.  Not at all what we expected, we decided to stay one night & head for Athol Island the next morning.

SEA HARE, ATHOL ISLAND
Now this was much better.  Athol Island is a beautiful anchorage.  The water is clear aqua blue & the beaches were sparkling white sand.  We did a little beach combing & snorkeling.  For our effort we carried back some great shells & a slight sunburn.  By evening we were happy in the cockpit of It’s Perfect watching the sun go down at the end of a perfect day.
