HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

January 5, 2014
It is already the 5th day of the New Year, we are in Chaguaramas Bay, Trinidad.  Where has the time gone?  This time last year we were traveling south from Charleston, South Carolina. We have now been living aboard for more than 2 years, loving our new way of life and learning many new things, some the hard way. We dreamed of living this life for so many years and now it has become normal.  With this new year we will venture a little further into the unknown.

This life we dreamed of, is much more than what we could imagine.  It's bigger, more amazing and more satisfying, with an infinite number of possibilities. Life here aboard is hard at times and sometimes scary, but when the sun comes up it is always a new day in a far away place.  We have learned much about ourselves and It's Perfect.

With the beginning of another year on the water we think of all the things that we could do and the places we could go.  We have a new perspective of this way of life with each passing day.  Our family and friends watch as we move farther from the land and people we love, it does not mean we love them less.  Our hope for everyone we left at home is that they too will reach for their dream, work for it and achieve it.  Life is short, there are wonderful new things to learn about the world around us.

With all the holidays we have not seen much of the lovely island of Trinidad.  We have seen people we met in Grenada and met new people from all over the world.  Iain and Meg Buchanan aboard  Ariadne, a Bruce Roberts 45 Cutter, left their home in Scotland in 2005 to follow their dream.  They traveled to the Mediterranean, Spain, Portugal and Italy before heading for the Canary Islands.  They have since crossed the Atlantic to Brazil then up to French Guyana and across to Trinidad.

Sitting in the cockpit of It's Perfect last night they told us of some of the wonderful places they have seen and some of the hard lessons they have learned.  These are average people that took the hardest step toward their dream.  That first step of cutting the dock lines, leaving the comfort of home and moving forward toward the rewards of the unknown. After taking that first step you see the world in a whole new way.
