FRESH FISH DELIVERED RIGHT TO THE BOAT |
The days
are slow here in Kuna Yala. It is much cooler here than in
Cartagena, there is a steady breeze blowing most of the time. We
are in the Lemon Cays anchored just off Tiadup in 40ft of bright
blue water. There are about 14 islands within a 3 mile radius all
with white sand beaches, palm trees and mangroves. We will be here
until Monday when we return to Porvenir to pick up our Zarpe for our
trip up the coast for provisions.
This is
another anchorage where we could settle in. Rod spent the first day
replacing the impeller on the outboard motors water pump. By the
looks of it we were just in time. After making water we retired to
the cockpit. The next day we took the dinghy over to Tiadup and
walked completely around the small island on the white sand beach
picking up shells. There is one family living on the island and one
small bar. Most of the Kunas live without real furniture sleeping
under thatched roofs in hammocks.
Today we
wound our way through 8 islands to a deserted island surrounded on 2
sides by reefs. We walked in the shallow water along the beach
halfway around the islands before turning back for the dinghy. The
Kuna fishermen were busy out by the reef as we donned our masks and
fins to take a look around. The water is 89 degrees here in the
islands and it was a perfect way to end the outing. Back on the boat
there is a afternoon breeze, the shades are up and it's time for a
nap. Life is good.
