Harvestmoon Smack Down Regatta
The day has arrived. The crew was aboard at 6:30 am on start day, thursday 10/1/2009. It's Perfect left the dock at 7 am heading for the start line off Galveston Island. The day was great, winds 10 to 15 knots as we past the Kemah Boardwalk & headed out into the Gulf. Nearing the shipping lanes, it was time to put up the sails. She sailed beautifully, we were sailing close to hull speed about 7.4 knots. At 11 am while all were enjoying the sail, a wind gust blew the clew out of the jib. The crew went into action taking down the damaged sail & raising our smaller jib. They did a great job dealing with the sails while contending with the boat rocking and rolling under their feet. This reduced our speed to under 6 knots.
