THE CONCH REPUBLIC

MAY 26, 2012

It was 9am, Rod left in the dinghy for the marina office to check into the Conch Republic.  The water here is a beautiful blue & crystal clear.  You can see fish swimming everywhere & horseshoe crabs running along the bottom.  From the dinghy you can see the entire keel & rudder of the boat, it is way cool!

Rod returned & we left It's Perfect for the day.  We headed into the main part of town where everything is happening and of course, that is where Paul has Momma Kat docked.  After a fifteen minute dinghy ride we arrived at Key West Bight Marina, tied up behind Momma Kat & unloaded the bikes.

Paul was waiting at a waterfront restaurant just steps from his boat, it seems he is well known here.
The Turtle Kraal Bar & Restaurant has become Paul's second home, he introduced us to all, customers & staff alike.  After a quick lunch it was time to take a ride & see what everyone makes such a fuss about.

GORDAN & ROD

Right at dockside there were many shops, bars, restaurants & people.  The streets were teeming with all kinds of activity.  All the shops seemed to be doing a booming business.  From the sidewalk you could arrange for scuba charters, fishing charters, dauphin watching boats, glass bottom boats & almost anything else you could come up with.

HOOLIGAN FROM DOCK 23

We had seen a boat on our way in that looked suspiciously familiar.  As we were walking along the dock, none other than Gordon from Dock 23 in Kemah was walking towards us.  Gordon left last year & has traveled far south in his 50 ft. Gulfstar.  He just arrived from Cuba 2 days ago,  he & a lady friend will leave soon to head up the east coast.

  1. Did you get a tracking number on the copper mermaid when you shipped it to me?? It has not yet arrived at the Kemah office!
Trust there are some serious good times going on in Key West. Some of my favorites are the butterfly garden, coconut ice cream to die for, The Cat Man at the Mallory Square sunset party, watching all the freaks and your own private version of the Duval Crawl. Blog readers anxiously await news from the Conch Republic.

  2. The good times are here! Key West is one big party. Have not made it to the butterfly garden or the coconut ice cream but the day is not over! The freaks are certainly out in mass! More to come!
