TARPON SNAG FISHING TOURNAMENT

MAY 19, 2012

Left Boca Grande at 7:30AM back offshore heading for Naples about 55 miles south.
The weather was clear & calm.

HUGE TARPON 3 TO 5FT
As we crossed the entrance at Boca Grande you could see Tarpon rolling up everywhere in the water.  As it turns out, it was a
Tarpon Snag Fishing Tournament, catch & release.

When we made our turn south Rod put out his trolling line again.  Before too long another interruption in the form of a King mackerel, this one was bigger but we put him back where he came from.  Out went the line again.

The water was like glass a good part of the day, too calm for sailing. It was pretty uneventful until mid afternoon when the fishing rod caused a loud long whine, line was flying off the reel.  Rod went into action thinking we had something big.  It might have been huge, but when the line came up everything off of the line, leader, lures & all.  Maybe it is time for new & different entertainment.

We reached Naples at 10 min until 5PM.  Tied up at the gas dock  & quickly filled with diesel, the pumps shut off automatically at 5PM.  We have decided to stay at least 2 nights so we took a mooring ball at the city marina for $10 a night.
