Here we are in Panama City, Florida. We left Redfish Point at 3:30 AM yesterday & went directly across to Panama City. We arrived at anchor behind Shell Island at 5:30PM. Beautiful white beaches, clear aquamarine water awaited.
The stars were out when we left, the sun came up over the water & the day was beautiful. Our first long passage of this trip & all went well. The next outside passage will be over 24 hours long all the way down to Tampa. Looks like we will wait here for some weather to pass & leave the first of the week.
Rod is using Open CPN navigation software & it is way cool. It makes going into an unknown anchorage a walk in the park. You just watch the screen & steer right around shallows & obstructions just like walking around a lump in the sidewalk. It also makes anchoring much easier, knowing what is under your keel.
We are currently in town. Took the dingy to a marina & offloaded the bikes. 1st stop is for a hamburger & then on to the grocery store. It's interesting what becomes important when you carry it back to the dingy on the bike. Milk, eggs, bread, wine. These are some of the necessities.
Great to hear you guys are doing well. We had a good blow and heavy wind last night ( Thursday night) at WYC. It is headed your way so good to know you are laying over. If you get a chance take a walk on the beach where you are anchored at Shell Island. Don't know why but the white sand squeaks like new snow when you walk on it. The island is also known as a good shell finding place after a front plasses.
ReplyDeleteWe miss you guys.

Peaceful Easy Feeling...
You are right! One of the first things we noticed was the funny noise. Hope to go to shore before we leave one more time after the weather. Maybe find some fun stuff. You two have got to do this. Everyday it's something new. Bet you could even find a place to play the chello!
