THE CITADEL COLLEGE OF SOUTH CAROLINA

THE CITADEL SITS ON 300 ACRES
BESIDE THE ASHLEY RIVER

This week The Citadel College of Charleston has taken on a new roll.  A destination for General Delivery mail & packages.
We looked up the nearest post office to our anchorage & advised our mail service to forward to the address we had given them.  On the same day we ordered a punch for attaching common sense fasteners & had it shipped to the same post office address.  Sounds like we covered everything.

A week later we load the dinghy for a trip to the post office to retrieve our mail.  As we prepared to
leave Its Perfect, the phone rang.  A man was calling from The Citadel receiving office.  He seems to have a package for us, mysteriously delivered to him.  Well this is truly is odd.  The address matches the address on the Internet for the post office.  Off we go before he has time to send it back.  All packages delivered to the Citadel Post office are sent to the college receiving building.  This post office does not accept General Delivery.

So all is not lost.  First thing to find the receiving dock.  Quite an accomplishment I must say.  Our bikes win the day again.  We finally arrived at the proper building to retrieve our package.  Just a little paperwork & signatures & it was ours for the taking.  The men in the office were very helpful.   This had not ever happened to them before, a first time for everything.

At the post office we retrieved our envelope & then took the time to see a little of The Citadel.
It being summer there were not a lot of people about.  The campus is very large & buildings were being prepared for the students to return.

HONOR  DUTY  RESPECT

The Citadel College of South Carolina was founded in 1842. It is one of six senior military colleges in the United States. The students are expected to live by the Code.  Honor, Duty, Respect.  It was not until 1997 that locks were put on any door at the school.  Honor made them unnecessary.  In 1996 the first women were enrolled in this all male school.
Our unexpected tour of The Citadel was fascinating.  The history, architecture, grounds & people we met were well worth the trip.
