BEAUTIFUL WEATHER HEADING SOUTH

JANUARY 23, 2013

SUNRISE INDIAN RIVER, MELBOURN, FLORIDA
We weighed anchor this morning at 6:30am, the sun was just coming up over the Indian River in  Melbourne, Fla.  Today promises to be a day of sunshine & wind 15 to 20 knots.  We are headed for Ft Pierce where we anchored on our way north.

PASSING PELICAN ISLAND BIRD SANCTUARY

Our route on the ICW was uneventful, we motor sailed most of the day in water 10 to 13ft deep most of the day.  There was less traffic on the canal than the last two days as we passed Pelican Island Bird Sanctuary.

It is still cool in the 60's, but the water temperature is climbing by the mile.  As passed under the 10th bridge of the day & crossed the Fort Pierce inlet the water temperature was a warm 67.4.  Rod says almost bath water temp.  I believe he is greatly mistaken.

We turned the corner into our anchorage at 2:30pm & are happy to drop the anchor after a relatively short day.  There are dolphin & turtle in the water to keep us company as the moon rises in a clear blue sky.  Tomorrow we will reach Lake Worth where we will retrieve more parts that Ann & Steve from Sassy Kat were kind enough to receive for us.  After a few days of working on the water maker at anchor we will then start our final leg to cross to the Bahamas.

  1. Hey,
Say "HI" to Ann and Steve for me; are they going to the Bahamas too?

Can't wait to hear about the crossing!

    1. Well I think they are working every day. They have a house about 3.5 mi from this anchorage. It's nice and calm. There are alot of boats but plenty of room. Cap'n Paul of Momma Kat has been talking about going with us. We'll see. It looks like we will be here about a week before heading south. It will take us about a week to get to Nassau. Lindas sister will meet us there and spend a week. Then onward south. About 1500 mile to Trinadad before hurricane season.
Maybe you can make some of that?
      Later, Rod
