OVERNIGHT IN PUERTO PATILLA

MAY 14, 2013

SUNRISE OVER THE CARIBBEAN SEA
We weighed anchor at 5:30am, the stars were fading & a new day on the water was at hand.  The channel into Ponce is well marked & we were soon out & into the Caribbean Sea.  The sun was rising as we headed east for Puerto Patilla about 40 miles away.

WIND FARM ASHORE
We motored the entire day staying less than a mile off shore.  The wind was 10 to 15 right on our nose.  The coast of Puerto Rico has a rich dark green covering of foliage all across the rounded hills & mountains.  Some of the most beautiful coastlines we have seen.  As the day wore on the white clouds turned dark & there were scattered showers all around us.  The winds increased to 25 to 30 at times & then subsided back to around 15.  Even with showers on all sides of us, we did not get a drop.

TURNING INTO PUERTO PATILLA
Around 2:30pm we were picking our way past the reef just outside our anchorage.  We were greeted by dolphin running in & around the boat.  The water is clear & calm just inside the reef & we anchored in 12ft. of water.  If you have a chance to vacation in the islands, try Puerto Rico.  If we pass this way again we would like to spend a lot more time here.  Tomorrow 50 miles to Culebra.
