IT'S APRIL IN GRENADA

APRIL IN GRENADA
LOCAL STREET BAND AT FISH FRIDAY IN
GOUYTAVE, GRENADA

We have been back from Trinidad for 6 very busy weeks.  Because we may  not travel this way again for a long while we are trying to do some of the many things we have missed.  The Island Tour and the Oil Down with Cutty were great and the Ladies day out conversation topics were quite spicy indeed.  There are a few other things left on our list.

 12 TO 18IN FRESH LOBSTER
STILL CRAWLING AROUND

DEEP FRIED FRESH SNAPPER
Last week we took the cruisers bus to the village of Gouytave, in the parish of St John on the north west coast of the island.  This small European styled village is known as the fishing capitol of Grenada and for years has hosted the weekly event known as Fish Friday.  3 of the main streets downtown are blocked off and filled with vendor tents where you can purchase all kinds of seafood cooked fresh when you order at very reasonable prices.  The streets are filled with tourists and locals enjoying the friendly atmosphere, great food and live music which lasts late into the night. We tried several different dishes, one that resembled deep fried bait fish and made us think of fish French fries.  Not bad but we moved on to battered and fried whole red snapper.  Mmmmmmm..... very good.  There were also lobster rolls, lobster salad, fish salad, fish pie and much more.  Every vendor sold something called "Fried, Fried" a piece of fried fish on a fried bread.  Not quite the fish sandwich we are use to.

CHECKING OUT WHAT'S FOR DINNER
EVERYONE SMILE!
We wandered up and down dark streets listening to small local bands and looking at the very interesting old buildings of downtown.  While having a glass of wine we met some of the locals and a few of the tourists off cruise ships there for dinner.  A local family with 2 small happy girls had a booth set up selling jewelry and stone carvings.  The husband made all that was for sale and his wife handled the sales.  An interesting night.

VIEW FROM OUR PERFECT SEATS
Last Sunday was the
19th Grenada Dinghy Concert, check out the video.  It is held just offshore from Edgmont the other side of Calvigny Island about a 30min dinghy ride away.  On our way the water was at low tide and the waves were breaking over the reefs as we picked our way through the shallow water.  Finally we arrived with many other dinghy's at the floating dock that is towed just offshore for the event.  Tied together we all spent a great couple of hours listening to Doc Adams and Tomy play music from the 60's and 70's.  Sun shining, beautiful clear blue water, good music and a cold drink in hand.  It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the islands.

On Monday we attended movie night at Secret Harbor and over beer and pizza watched Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks.  Excellent movie and great company, the pizza was not quite like Pizza Inn's or Poppa John's.  All in all a very busy start to April, 1214.
