ON THE WATERFRONT |
We have found Portobello very interesting. The people are very friendly and eager to help. Most speak Spanish but the small businesses and bar/restaurants are mostly run by sailors from all over the world who for one reason or another have found themselves stuck here. There are many Americans, Germans, Italian and Orientals. Most of the Americans say they will not return to the US and immediately begin their version of what is wrong with society. It is hard to see what they see as advantages of living here instead of the states. I would never choose living here permanently over the US. We take for granted so much that the people of these much poorer countries can not even begin to imagine.
For now we
will be here for a couple of more days, one more trip into Sabanitas
for what the last of the provisions. We wake up to the sound of
Howler monkeys swinging through the trees on shore and go to sleep
with fish jumping in the water around us. Panama is beautiful. We
will return here in the fall after our stay in the San Blas, then
head west on toward Boca del Toro. We hope to do a little
sightseeing of the mainland when we return. Maybe a jungle tour or a
bus ride over to Panama City to see the Pacific side of Panama.
We are on
Facebook and will have family post a short update every week or two
just to let everyone know what they are missing not coming to visit
us in the San Blas.
Linda, what do you mean? "we take for granted so much they can't even imagine?". Like what? How? Also you often mention 'heat' as hotter or cooler.... What are the temps - in degrees? (are these things you just notice and comment on, or are they critical issues?). Please share more photos and stories of the other cruisers there. How did they get stuck? So happy y'all are well and enjoying your visit. Miss you both. X o. Skip
