LIFE IN PARADISE IS ON HOLD - WAITING FOR PARTS

September 1, 2014
In the last week we have been into Colon on this end of the Panama Canal twice. The trip into town via the $1.50 city bus system takes about 1 ½ hours each way. Since Portobello is at the end of the line if we get to the bus stop a little early we get a good seat going in. By the time we reach the bus terminal downtown the aisle is full and people are hanging out the front door. With music blaring and people jostling for space the time passes surprisingly fast.

STANDING ROOM ONLY
The marine supplies that are available are for the most part very reasonable. We purchased anchor rode for about half what it costs in the US. The lack of electrical supplies is very disappointing. That said we have an inverter, AIS and GPS ordered and being shipped to Craig Yakel in Kemah. He has volunteered to relay parts to us from the US. The Auto Pilot has been sent to Craig and is at the factory dealer. With a whole lot of luck we may get it warrantied, it was new in March. Just waiting.
In the meantime we are the only place in Portobello we can purchase gas is at a house on the main drag.  A man comes out of his living room and fills our 5 gallon jug with gas out of 1 gallon juice containers.  Not your average gas station.
Aboard It's Perfect the time is going by. As soon as parts begin to arrive we will be back in action. Making progress will make life look a lot different here in Panama.
