While here we have met many other cruisers using this as a jumping off point for the adventures heading west into the Pacific. Brave cruisers looking for a far away tropical paradises too call home, while doing their circumnavigation of the world. Jessica and Peter from England, are now at Shelter Bay in Colon awaiting the measuring of SV Cheetah. They will then be assigned a time slot to pass through the Panama Canal. We have had great fun getting to know them and hearing about their exploits at sea and we hope to see them on the other side.
The preparations for leaving Portobello are coming along. Finished putting more supports on the wind generator, tightened up the helm pedestal, checked the engine and filters, filled the fuel tanks. Below it has been a race to put things away secure all the cabinets and shelves. Now planning food and drinks for being underway for 6 or more days calls for another trip in to town for supplies. We are so looking forward to getting underway. Panama has been great, but for the last couple of months we have felt the need to be on the move. New adventures await.
As it turns out cousins Rick and Leslie from Texas are flying in on Thursday to join us on our passage to Roatan. This will be the first long passage where we have had company. Provisioning has been a challenge and we are now checking jack lines and harnesses to make sure we are all covered. It is looking like we will have good winds and the current with us most of the way which should make a lively trip. About 750 miles anchor to anchor, our longest passage to date.
We will activate the SPOT when we pull up the anchor and get underway. Checking in every 6 hours or so should be sufficient on this long passage.
