REPAIRS ARE A SUCCESS

NEWLY INSTALLED RUDDER POST UPPER BEARING ASSEMBLY
JUST ANOTHER FINE ROD DUNCAN DESIGN
The boat is really quite since Rick & Leslie left us and there is still much to do.  We have been working on the rudder problem.  After disassembling the back cabin the entire rudder post assembly is visible.  He checked the bulkhead, bolts and bearing.  A few bolts attaching the auto pilot to the bulkhead were not tight.  After some thought the decision was made to beef up the backing plates on the autopilot assembly and installing the new upper bearing on the rudder shaft.

After a full day SUCCESS.  Now the search is on for scuba gear to check the rudder under the waterline.  No one in San Andres rents scuba gear to individuals.  After some visiting with other cruisers Rod was able to borrow a tank and check below the water.  Everything seems to be as it should be.  After all was said and done we feel comfortable enough to plan our trip on to Roatan.

Time for a drink in the cockpit and a check on the weather.  It was decided our departure for Roatan would begin on Thursday the 19th.  Weather should be light winds and partly cloudy skies all the way.
