THE BRIDGES OF THE ICW

JUNE 19, 2012

We were up at 7AM & just made the 7:30 opening of the George Munson Memorial Drawbridge.  Passing under, we are moving north toward St Augustine.

The water in the ICW looks brown & muddy after you see the water off shore.  We had dolphin, manatees & birds for company. The manatees are brown & in the muddy brown water they were hard to see.  Most of the time I would see their back & tail as the rolled over the top of the water leaving a blank spot behind.  The dolphin come up in groups most of the time & they are much easier to see
BASCULE BRIDGE COMING UP
WAIT.....WAIT.....WAIT..........
.
GO..GO..GO..BEFORE IT CLOSES

Today we went under 10 bridges.  4 of those were bascule bridges, they all opened on demand so we did not have to wait long.  We passed through Palm Coast & Crescent Beach.  Plenty of lovely homes backing up to the canal.  We did not encounter any barge traffic but plenty of motor boats with no manners.  The police raced off after one boat that had people on the radio yelling at him to slow down.  See exciting things do happen even on the ICW.

We reached the St Augustine Municipal Marina at 3:30 & picked up a mooring ball.  Time to lower the dinghy & get the paperwork done at the office.  We will stay 3 nights & have big plans for getting things done, we will see.  St Augustine is the oldest town in the US & the historic downtown is 2 blocks from the dinghy dock.  I think at least one day of sight seeing & 2 mornings of sleeping late.
The sleeping late will start tomorrow.  More to come.
