KEY WEST - THE FINAL DAYS

JUNE 3, 2012

NO ROOM ON THE DOCK
Our final day in Key West, Florida was going to be today.  So this morning we began preparing to leave the Key West City Mooring field.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

CAPT. PAUL

Rod emptied the water & fuel jugs into the tanks, attached mast steps to the main & completed the zipper in the main sail stack pack.  All of this was done by 2PM.  Then the empty water & gasoline jugs were loaded into the dinghy & off we went to town.

SIDEWALK SCENERY

Our first stop was at the fuel dock.  All the water & gasoline jugs have been filled, now on to the dock to tie up behind Momma Kat.  Paul has been very nice to let us leave our bikes on his deck & use his boat as our dinghy dock.  The marina dinghy dock is always full.

Our second stop was back to the ice cream shop for 1 more scoop.  Ok, Ok I had 2 scoops.  Just can’t get enough ice cream!

Last stop was to the convenience store to replenish our ice & beer.  There waiting in line to check out in front of us was Gordon.  He is still anchored here & is planning to leave in the next few days.  It looks like we will be running into him along the way, he is now planning on going the same was as we are.

DISCUSSING THE NEXT STOP

By the time we got back to Momma Kat, Paul was just arriving on a dive boat.  He has been out most of the day diving with friends.  We said our goodbye’s & left in the dinghy headed back to It’s Perfect.

Back at the boat Rod decided to get the snorkel gear out & check out the bottom of the boat before we move on.  Of course, he found something that will keep us here an extra day.  There is no zinc on the prop shaft.  Not good.  Fortunately Paul has all kinds of dive equipment.   Tomorrow morning Rod will be at West Marine, then borrow tanks from Paul and go under the boat to replace the zinc & scrape a few barnacles away.
