MILE 0, KEY WEST

MAY 31, 2012

The days are flying by!  Today we arrived at Key West Bight after noon.  It sounds late, but starting our day later is becoming normal to us.  We retrieved our bikes from Momma Kat, Captain Paul has been nice enough to let us leave them aboard Momma Kat.  It is much easier than taking them back & forth every time we come into town.

Today we brought along the SPOT so you could see our route through town.  First stop was the Post Office.  We have had our mail forwarded to us via General Delivery, the Post Office will hold mail for up to 30 day's.  From there it was time to do the tourist thing & ride through the neighborhoods.

Finally we ran out of the road & turned up at the southern most point in the United States, Mile Marker 0.  Of course everyone was having their picture made so we did too.  From this point you are only 90 miles from Cuba.

"Hello! The Today Show was filmed in Cuba."  If you guessed Captain Ron the movie you are correct.  That does not mean we are heading for Cuba, although we hear it is beautiful, clean & Americans are everywhere.

The last stop for us was at theFlamingo Crossing, located at 1105 Duval St.  Here you will find genuine, sinfully delicious homemade ice cream.  After 2 scoops each we had tried - Coconut, Peach, Amaretto & Chocolate.  They were fabulous!!!   On your next visit to Key West do not miss this experience.

Back at the dock to pick up the dinghy, we decided to bring the bikes along.  The large grocery stores are closer our side of the island.  Tomorrow will be shopping day.  It will be a full load.

  1. Glad you found the ice cream shop. I could not remember the name. That alone is worth the trip to Key West> looking forward to hearing of more adventures!

  2. The coconut was superb! We are going into town one more time before we leave & will make one last stop for ice cream. I believe it is the best I have ever had!
