RIVER STREET DOCK, SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

JULY 9, 2012
The trip up the Savannah River took an hour & 1/2  to reach the River Street Dock.  In no time at all we were hooked up &  the air conditioner on.  Unlimited air conditioning,  what dreams are made of.
Just about the time we settled in Kent arrived.  He had driven in from Charlotte, North Carolina to sail with us to Charleston tomorrow.  He has been kind enough to use his car as our taxi.
ON THE DOCK
RIVER STREET

Four main things on our list.  Groceries, laundry, West Marine & fill propane.   West Marine has replacement joker valves for the electric heads that had to be special ordered.  We still have 2 full propane tanks but having a car will make filling the extra tank much easier than doing it on a bike.  Then there is always the luxury of a real Laundromat.  Well if you have ever done without you will understand.
YACHT MOVER HEADING
DOWN THE RIVER
It took most of the afternoon to complete our errands so before we returned to the boat we had Mexican food & a margarita.  The end of a productive afternoon, except now everything has to be taken to the boat & put away.  I think I will need another margarita.  This is the first time we have had a car to do our errands since April 14 when we left Kemah.  Kent was a saint & took us where ever we directed.  We can not thank him enough for the ride & the company.

After looking at the weather & discussing our options we decided to stay on the dock another night & see some of the sights of Historic Savannah.  As we sat in the cockpit while the sun went down we were dwarfed by the huge container ships leaving on the Savannah River headed for the Atlantic.  Just about dark it was time for Rod to walk up to River Street just above the dock & bring back ice cream.  Just what we needed to end the day.

ONE OF THE MANY CITY PARKS

After a light breakfast we were off for a tour.  The Historic District is laid out to include a square block of city park area every 6 or 8 blocks.  It seemed every time we turned a corner there was another one.  Most of the homes have been refurbished to showcase amazing architecture, iron work & columns.  Do not miss the historic neighborhoods, they are worth the trip.  Back on Its perfect it was time for an early dinner.  Roast beef, salad & twice done potatoes & onions.

After dinner Rod did some trip planning & Kent had to run some errands.  Before bed we walked down River Street & did some window shopping.  The street is brick & cobble stone & the sidewalks narrow.  There are gift shops, art galleries, restaurants, pubs & historic hotels.  You could spend hours on the few blocks that front the river.

Tomorrow we will move to anchor close to Hilton Head Island & leave for Charleston early the next day.
