MIAMI, FLORIDA - THE BOAT SHOW

SMALL ICW WATERFRONT PROPERTY
VERY COLORFUL
FEBRUARY 15, 2013

We arrived in Miami via the ICW & anchored north of the Sunset Islands on Tuesday evening. Two things that make the ICW stressful to use, the bridges & the depth.  We had almost no problem with depth, but the bridges were so tedious in timing that it sets your nerves on edge. Between our Lake Worth anchorage & our anchorage in Miami we maneuvered under 31 bridges & almost all had to be opened.  Some were on the hour & on the half, but some were on the quarter of the hour & 3 quarters.  Waiting in a small confined space with multiple other boats for the opening was exhausting.  We still have a few more to deal with before we are clear to cross the Gulf Stream.

We are anchored with 4 other sailboats & 1 power boat just across the freeway from Mount
Sinai Medical Center in about 8 to 10 feet of water.  The storm system we have  been waiting on finally arrived last night.  Nothing serious but leaving to cross the gulf stream must wait until the winds coming from the north subside.  We are hoping to be able to move south to Hurricane Harbor on Sunday or Monday to be ready to cross to the Bahamas.

Today we met Mike & Gloria Rooney, from our dock in Kemah.  They are here for the Miami Boat Show & we caught up with them for lunch.  It was great to hear all about our friends we left behind & how the dock was faring since our departure.  It is unbelievable to think of all we have done & the people we have met in the 10 months we have been gone.  We had a great time catching up & said our goodbye's, they were on their way back to the boats show.

We have been into South Beach to take in the local scenery twice since we arrived.  The people watching is something to behold.  I would have loved to take pictures but did not want to offend anyone.  If you could imagine it, we saw it.  Couples with amazing tattoo's, piercings & an array of fashion that boggles the mind.  People on bikes, walking, skateboarding & riding Segway's everywhere we look.  Tropical flowers & animals are in every yard.  Just a hint of things to come in the tropical islands.

We are going to spend the next couple of days checking engine, fuel, filters & more in the hope that by mid week we will be heading across the infamous Gulf Stream into new & unknown waters.
