Tuesday & we are still in the beautiful blue water of Georgetown. Not exactly where we expected to be. We have had a few frustrating setbacks since we talked last.
SUNSET OVER GEORGETOWN |
Sunday morning & the computer was not ready. We must wait until Monday. Back at It's Perfect Rod decided to change the fuel filter on the dinghy motor. Setback #2 After completing the task the engine would not start. Just like at Chub Rod took it apart, cleaned everything, checked the spark plugs & it still would not crank. That was all the fun we could stand for one day. We took this opportunity to quit & have a drink in the cockpit.
Monday morning &
Rod again tried to start the dinghy engine. Not happening. By this
time he called for reinforcements. Andy aboard Phase III has
volunteered his engine expertise. Together they spent the entire day
working on the engine to no avail. It does not look promising. Rod
& Andy went into town to use the Internet to look up parts &
pick up Rod's computer. We have a few options. We stay in
Georgetown & order parts from the states & wait for who knows
how long for parts to be delivered. We look for usable parts among
the cruising community or buy a usable motor to do us until we can
make arrangements for parts. Last but not least we can use our
current dinghy motor for an extra anchor. None of these options are
going to get us on our way south right away.
Today Andy & Rod will make one more attempt at resurrecting our dinghy motor before we make the decision to spend the big bucks. The good news is Rod's computer seems to be functioning properly.
There seems to be an unending array of reasons that carefully thought out plans are delayed while cruising. The only option, other than making each other crazy with worry, is to slow down, relax & deal with it tomorrow. Delays do not seem to be a big deal if you are on island time.
Just remember your setbacks are there, not here! Frustrating, I know.
ReplyDeleteScout around. Maybe you can find a quality stolen 15hp Yamaha Enduro for sale. Allow me to suggest that it might be worth considering repair of the old AND purchase of another, even though that is a big hit to the budget. There were a couple episodes when we were beset by dinghy engine devils and wished we had a back up. Even a cruddy old backup.
Fair winds.
