ON THE STREETS OF BOQUERONE |
As the sun was coming up over Cabo Rojo, we weighed anchor & turned south rounding the cape, to the southern shore of Puerto, Rico. The sky was partly cloudy, the wind coming almost straight at us from the east.
It was slow, fighting wind & current the entire journey. We were more than a mile offshore & more than half way to our destination when we ran into something we had only read about. A TRASH LINE which follows the current about 1 mile offshore. We altered our heading & turned closer to shore. A path full of debris can be very dangerous. On top of the water we saw limbs, huge logs, entire tree trunks including roots, wooden pallets, plywood, boards, plastic chairs & more. All of this was bad but, what was unseen under the water could be worse. As we carefully moved across the line & closer to the shore the trash diminished.
VIEW OF PONCE INLET |
After dodging debris & 2 small rain squalls we turned past the first marker & into the Ponce Inlet. By 4pm we had dropped the anchor in 30ft of water just outside the Ponce Yacht Club. We normally do not anchor in water this deep, but after picking our way through the anchorage 30ft was it. Across from the Ponce Yacht Club is a new park area called the Board Walk. It lines the shore with small bars & restaurants that overlook the water. On the weekends it is packed with young & old out to enjoy the nightlife by the water.
We will spend several days here restocking Its Perfect with food, fuel & parts. It is almost like being in the US. We have phone service, Internet, Walmart, Home Depot, Sams & all the fast food restaurants we can find at home.
Wednesday we spent a full day buying & stowing 3 carts of groceries & parts & pieces from Home Depot. Thursday was clear & sunny, a good day for laundry & small boat chores. While I was busy washing clothes, Rod fixed a leak in the waterline, repaired a faucet, changed the pull cord on one of the generators & more. By 5pm we had had enough. Time for a dinghy ride to the boardwalk to watch the sun go down with a glass of wine.
DAVID & LIBBY SV PEREGRINE |
We will take Friday off to join Libby & David from Peregrine & see the Museum de Arte de Ponce. All work & no play makes for a very dull time.
