FROM ST THOMAS TO TORTOLLA

May 27, 2012

We had dinner last night with Steve on Alternate Latitudes at the Fat Turtle.  He has been in St Thomas chartering his catamaran for about 6 months & it is going great.  It's great to see people we spent so much time with at Watergate Marina.
CHARLOTTE AMALIE IN THE MOONLIGHT

FINAL LOOK AT ST THOMAS

6:30am we are underway leaving Charlotte Amalie behind. The sail to Roadtown, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands will take about 6 hours. The wind was coming from the east so sailing was not much of an option & we motored through winds of 20 to 25 knots & seas were 3 to 4 ft. It was tiresome, rough day as the clouds gathered for afternoon showers.

We contacted Craig & Angela on Indigo as we turned up into the Frances Drake Sound, toward Road Town. We will check in with Customs & check our firearm with the Customs Weapon Task Force. By 4pm we were off to the mooring field at Cooper Island to meet up with Indigo. The weather had turned very cloudy with a wind of 25 to 30 knots.

By the time we reached Cooper Island we were done. It had been a long day. Skip, Craig & Angela were standing on the aft of Indigo to greet us when we motored in. Being an hour late was our downfall. There was not a mooring ball or an anchor space to be had. We were all disappointed when Its Perfect turned north toward an anchorage at Beef Island. With the dark of night closing in, as we motored through wind & rain to finally drop our anchor in 20ft of water in the lee of the island.
