Today is Saturday, &
Its Perfect is 15 miles off the island of Dominica, Life Is Good
Today! The mountains of the island rise out of flat calm water into
a clear blue sky ahead. The music is blaring in the cockpit &
there are big smiles all round as we congratulate ourselves on a
great passage of 44 hours. Dolphin play in the dark blue water
around us.
LAST TIME ON THE DOCK ST MARTIN |
ROD & DAVID CHECKING WEATHER |
Its Perfect left the
French side of St. Martin on Thursday at 4pm, rounding the north side
of the island as dark of night closed in. The wind was on the nose &
the waves were breaking over the bow. It seems entire journey since
leaving the Texas coast has been against the current & into the
wind. As we turn south on the far side of St Martin our path to
Grenada will be far different.
As we finally turn south
away from our eastern journey, the sails go up & we are sailing
on a broad reach, the first of many to come. During the night we
will have watches of 2 hours on & 4 hours off , with 3 aboard it
seems to work well.
As the dark closes in
there were few other boats on the water under the black, star filled
sky. Our course will lead us past many islands this night St. Barts,
St. Kitts & Nevis. The sun rose with Antiqua & Montserrat on
the horizon. After a long night we were all tired & took
advantage of all our breaks to catch up on our sleep. The warm
afternoon was filled with small rain showers as we sailed south.
What a change from banging into seas while moving against the wind.
The second night went like clockwork.
We are now closer to the
equator than we are to Georgetown, Bahamas. Its Perfect adventure
continues.
