RAYMARINE RADAR SCANNER - ATN TOP CLIMBER, TAKES YOU TO THE TOP

NOVEMBER 19, 2013

GET READY
GO.......
Today we were able to check off one of the things not actually on our list of projects, putting a new belt on the Raymarine Radar Scanner which has been loose for some time.  When a project is not on the list, we add it to the bottom & check it off anyway.  Being able to check things off the list makes us feel at though we are making progress.

Unable to buy a new belt in the islands, Rod has climbed the mizzen more than once to tighten things on the scanner, to make it work a little longer.  The belts resemble a large O-ring and while we were in the US, Rod found O-rings at Kemah Hardware that were the perfect size.  He bought 4, just in case we are in need of a spare.
Out came the ATN Top Climber and the Home Depot Bucket(used as a tool holder).  The Top Climber makes going up the mast single handed easy.  Up he went from the top of the hardtop to above the spreaders on the mizzen mast.  For moral support and to pick up anything he dropped, I stood watch on the top during the project.  The view from up there is incredible.  It is not often I venture up top but we should take advantage of the exceptional view after dark, just to watch all the stars come out.

READY TO WORK
It took him about an hour & the installation was a success.  Only one screwdriver was dropped during the procedure and fortunately it did not fall in the water.  I climbed off the hardtop to retrieve it & sent it back up via the Home Depot bucket.  When the job was finished we sat in the cockpit, turned on the radar & congratulations were in order.
The Raymarine Radar Scanner is working like new.

  2. Your right about that. You remember how it's much more difficult than it looks in the video.

  3. Well, inquiring minds want to know if Rod spoke with a higher pitch when he got done...
