TAKING THE SHORTCUT INTO ST GEORGES, GRENADA

ROCK QUARRY AT THE TOP OF THE HILL

Before we left for our visit to the US we had heard more than once about the shortcut through the Dove Sanctuary & rock quarry to get into town.  Our usual rout through the neighborhood's is great but walking through the shade of the hills sounded like a better alternative.

We left It's Perfect on Saturday morning for the hike thru the bush.  There is not a clear trail marked when you leave the main trail, so with a little trial & error we found our way up the incline that leads to the rock quarry.  Once on top the men working seemed quite surprised to see civilians.  They were very helpful & pointed us in the right direction that lead down the hill towards the main road & the roundabout.

A VIEW FROM THE ROCK QUARRY
From here we caught a bus & rode into St Georges with a full load of locals.  The bus was hot, packed & the music was blaring.  There is very little breeze after you leave the water.  Cruise ship season has arrived & every nationality of tourist was visible.  After a banana smoothie to cool off, we headed back toward the end of town to could catch a bus, back to the roundabout.  The buses do not run to the marinas, the roundabout is where we begin our hike back.
HISTORY ON THE WATERFRONT

On our walk back we were greeted by the quarry workers & we then began our decent toward the shore.  I believe the short cut through the bush will become our normal path when going into town.  It is not a lot shorter but much more scenic.
