ANCHORED IN PORTOBELLO

LEAVING BOCAS DEL TORO, OVERCAST SKIES
We left Bocas del Toro on Sunday about 8am, glad to be on the move.  The wind was light with partly cloudy skies and choppy seas.  Not much traffic till we arrived in the waters outside of the Panama Canal on Monday morning.  Glad to have our radar and AIS working there as there are HUGE ships anchored everywhere waiting for their turn through the canal.

ABOUT 1 MILE OFF OUR PORT SIDE
BEAUTIFUL BLUE CARIBBEAN SEA
While just off shore the radar showed a large ship coming toward us on the horizon doing 10 to 15 knots.  We watched as it grew bigger and waited for it to show up on our AIS.  It was a huge container ship that passed us about a mile off our port side, it was still not visible on the AIS.  One more example of how useful the radar is to let us know what is out there........not everyone follows the rules of commercial traffic  trans ponding on AIS.

A GREAT WAY TO END THE DAY
We arrived after 29 hours to anchor in our same spot on the far side of the bay from Portobello.  Tired after the passage we called it a day, time for showers, a hot meal and a glass of wine in the cockpit.  It is cooler here that in Boas, there was a light breeze and sunny skies.  Joe and Michelle aboard Peregrin arrived from Red Frog about the same time and we will catch up on their passage after a good night's sleep.  The sunset over the Caribbean was beautiful, a great way to end of a long day.
